Text fraud is on the rise
Fraudulent texts are known as SMS Phishing or Smishing. This type of fraud is becoming more common.
Below are the main things you can do to avoid fraud via text messages.
- The bank will NEVER text a customer asking for personal information or instructing customers to click a link. The only text messages BSB sends to customers are alerts and notifications. If a text is an urgent call to action, it is likely fraudulent. Additionally, the bank will never ask for your password.
- If you get a text or email that you are suspicious of, call the bank or the company it is claiming to be from the phone number listed on their official website.
- Do not reply or click on links you receive from text messages. This will only alert the fraudster that your number is actively being monitored and most likely will lead to an escalation of fraudulent messages.
Don’t let scammers get their hands on your sensitive information!
If you have questions about someone contacting you by text, email, phone or mail, keep these things in mind:
- Never give out your Online Banking login information to anyone
- Do not release any private information in response to an unsolicited call, letter, email, or text
- When in doubt, call your local BSB!
