Retiring after 40 years is an extraordinary milestone. This blog celebrates not only a remarkable career in banking, but also the relationships, dedication, and servant leadership that made such a lasting impact on customers, coworkers, and the Bennington State Bank family.

Beth Kindall-Celebrating 40 Years of Service and Dedication

After more than four decades in banking, we are honored to celebrate the retirement of a team member whose career reflects commitment, adaptability, and a genuine passion for serving others.

Raised in Minneapolis, Kansas, she graduated from Minneapolis High School before attending the University of Kansas. Her banking journey began in June 1982 at Colonial Savings in Salina, where she worked as a teller. Just months later, she experienced her first major industry transition when Colonial Savings was purchased and converted to First Federal Savings Bank in January 1983.

On February 14, 1983, she joined United Bank in Minneapolis as a receptionist. Over the next three and a half years, she embraced every opportunity to learn, taking on numerous responsibilities and building a foundation for what would become an exceptional career. Then, on August 21, 1986, the FDIC declared United Bank insolvent and closed its doors. The very next day, The Bennington State Bank purchased United Bank, beginning a new chapter that would last nearly 40 years.

As she likes to recount, she was “inherited,” in the words of Mike Berkley, as a loan secretary in 1986. From there, she became known for her willingness to help wherever needed. Throughout the years, she worked across multiple departments, continually expanding her knowledge of banking operations and gaining expertise in countless areas of the organization.

In 1990, she attended compliance school at the University of Oklahoma and began serving as Compliance Officer for the Minneapolis location while continuing her loan processing responsibilities. Her ability to juggle multiple roles became a hallmark of her career.

Family has always been a priority. In 1992, she transitioned to a 20-hour work week and job-shared with Lou Weis so she could spend more time as a stay-at-home mom to her son, Caleb. Even while working part-time, she remained an invaluable part of the bank’s success.

Another significant turning point came in 2000 when Grace Lawrence retired. She was selected to train under Grace and assume responsibility for payroll administration, employee benefits, and various human resources functions. As her role evolved, she continued to support compliance efforts and willingly stepped in wherever needed, whether balancing teller drawers, counting the vault, balancing loans, or helping teams across the bank.

By 2020, changing benefits programs and the bank’s continued growth led her to increase her schedule to 30 hours per week. Although she had to set aside some of the many responsibilities she had accumulated throughout the years, she remained focused on ensuring employees received the support and guidance they needed.

When asked what she loved most about her time at BSB, the answer comes easily: the relationships.

“For the first 14 years, I spent my time waiting on customers and solving problems for them. For the last 26 years, my coworkers became my customers. I’ve developed some very special relationships helping them navigate life.”

That sentiment perfectly captures the legacy she leaves behind. Whether serving customers in the community or supporting employees behind the scenes, she consistently approached her work with compassion, care, and a desire to help others succeed.

As she enters retirement, she is looking forward to spending more time with family, serving as her husband’s “Uber driver” on the farm, and visiting her children and granddaughters. She also plans to enjoy scrapbooking, reading, and perhaps most importantly, the freedom that comes with setting her own schedule.

Her career has spanned industry changes, organizational growth, and countless milestones. Through it all, she has been a trusted colleague, dedicated professional, and caring friend. The impact she has made on BSB, its employees, and its customers will be felt for years to come.

Congratulations on an incredible career and a well-earned retirement. Thank you for 40 years of service, friendship, and unwavering commitment. We wish you all the best in this exciting new chapter.
